Description:
Executed in a refined, elegant line, Stretched Young Woman by Pere Pruna captures a moment of movement and grace. Pere Pruna Ocerans (1904–1977), a self-taught Catalan artist, later trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. During his formative years in Paris, he studied under the guidance of Pablo Picasso, whose influence is visible in Pruna’s stylistic evolution. Notably, Pruna moved in avant-garde circles alongside Jean Cocteau, Drieu la Rochelle, and Max Jacob—figures who helped shape his distinctive vision.
Unlike many modernist drawings, Stretched Young Woman maintains classical restraint while exploring sensual tension. The young female figure, rendered in mixed media, stretches across the page in a relaxed yet suggestive pose. The soft tones and flowing lines emphasize her quiet strength and the subtle dynamism of the composition. Pruna’s technique bridges academic draftsmanship and modern sensitivity, making this a significant example of 20th-century Spanish figure art.
This work has not required restoration and remains in excellent condition. It has been professionally framed by Post Art Gallery on the North Shore to both protect the paper medium and enhance its display. The frame choice complements the delicacy of the artwork without distracting from its subject.
Stretched Young Woman exemplifies Pruna’s synthesis of neoclassical drawing with modernist flair. It is a collectible example of Spanish draftsmanship, ideal for collectors who appreciate both historical context and aesthetic refinement.
